Slack is a messaging app for businesses to connect people with the information they need. For digital tutoring and online classes it can be used to:

You can create a channel for the whole group, you can create specific channels for small group discussions, for working on specific projects or even for Q+A sessions with the tutor.

  • Channels

Conversations organised in specific spaces by topics/group members. It means that the necessary people for the necessary topic can all communicate together in the same space.

It makes the sharing of information, decision making and progress easier.

  • Huddles and clips

Huddles are like audio or video call though these are more informal in that they are not scheduled and there is not specific agenda.

  • Connect tools

There are over 2,000 app connected with Slack that can make your life easier. These include  apps like Zoom, GSuite, calendars etc.

  • Search Conversations

you can search for people, channels, files, and messages.

  • Share files  and content

You can share files up to 1GB in Slack. Alternatively, you can add them from apps such as Google Drive, Dropbox etc.

  • Set reminders

You can use this function to make sure you remember to do certain things. You can create reminders for yourself, for someone else or also for everyone in the channel.

  • Set your status

You can set your status so that people know if you are available or not. Some of the default options include: active; away; in a meeting; on vacation, but you can also customise them to fit your needs.

  • Mute channels

You can stop receiving notifications of new messages for channels if you would prefer not to receive them or just need to focus on something else temporarily. 

  • Taking notes

You can easily write notes to yourself in Slack by sending yourself messages. This is great to keep track of ideas or remember to do certain tasks later.
